24K Gold Christmas Tree Ornament -- Royal Copenhagen Victorian Doll House --

For many years, Ms. Flora Gill Jacobs presided over the Washington Dolls' House and Toy Museum, which she founded in 1975 and ran for nearly three decades, usually at a loss. Her work there, and her writings, were credited with creating interest in dollhouse collecting in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Displayed in her museum were a number of dollhouses often decorated for Christmas. In the mid-1990s, Royal Copenhagen released a box set of twelve gold plated Christmas ornaments depicting the best of these dollhouses. Each ornament was pictured from the front as well as the back. Each individual ornament was packed in a little red box and the set of twelve were in a larger red box. While the detail on the front of each house is wonderful, it is the rearview of each decorated room that generally surprises people the most. The inside of the house and miniature 'goings on,' are depicted in full color photographic images, visible from the front windows and back. This unique ornament is etched in polished brass, then covered with a layer of pure 24 kt gold. It measures 3 1/2 inches high by 2 1/2 inches wide, but is only 1/4 inch deep. This ornament is in excellent condition.

One side of the home is inscribed ©Bing & Grondahl Collections. The bottom of home is inscribbed “The First Victorian Doll House Ornament”. The remaining side is inscribed “Made in USA”.

The top of house has no inscription. There is (what appears to be) the original gold thread hanger. This ornament is approximately 2 5/16" wide and 3 5/8" tall, including the round bail (hanger) which is part of the house. The width is approx 1/4”.
